Gesture in space, 2025, multi-cycle programmed, permanent space-related light art at the foyer ceiling of the Museum of East Asian Art (MOK), Cologne. The variable arrangement of the 26 luminous bodies at different heights and angles creates a three-dimensional sculpture through overlays depending on the position.
In the dialogue between inside and outside of the “Aachen pond” and the inner adjacent Japanese garden, Schmid`s light art enters into a relationship with the surrounding nature and architecture. It also interacts with artist Zheng Chongbin's transparent floor work, which also includes reflected light.
